THE DARKNESS packed out LONDON's OXFORD ST HMV last night (July 7), as 1,500 fans tried desperately to get a glimpse of the band.

People spilled out onto the street as the group tore through a seven-song set, including the latest single 'Growing On Me', before sitting down for a signing session, which, due the masses of people, finished a hour late.

Four hundred tickets were allocated for fans to meet the band, though the store was soon filled to capacity as the The Darkness opened with the instrumental 'Bareback'. Queuing for the gig started before 11 in the morning, with fans waiting for up eight hours.

An HMV spokesperson said, "It's the biggest ever crowd for a band's debut performance at an HMV instore."

Celia Campbell, a devoted Darkness follower, said, "I love them because they're so different to anyone else around at the moment - I think Justin (Hawkins, singer/guitarist)'s really fit. I love him in those pink flares!"
