Thin Lizzy have written and recorded their first new material since1983, and 27 years after the death of Phil Lynott. The last original member, drummer Brian Downey, decided he was done with touring leaving Scott Gorham as the only classic member of Lizzy, so Jimmy DeGrasso was brought in. However, they all felt uncomfortable recording under the Lizzy banner and therefore they have rebranded as BSR. This was BSR's first ever London gig, but it was Lizzy business as usual as they opened with the title track of their debut album, "All Hell Breaks Loose' before launching into Lizzy classic "Are You Ready?" And thus it continued, new song followed by a Lizzy song all the way through which delighted the crowd, but launching into a Lizzy track as soon as the second song left me wondering how serious they are about establishing the new identity! That said, they were as awesome as you'd expect from any band with Lizzy personel and Ricky Warwick who probably realises there'll only be one Phil, seems to have grown very comfortably into the lead roll which he's had a good few years to perfect.
They were supported by The Dead Daisies who were excellent! The Daisies contain such names as G'n'R and Ex Lizzy axeman Richard Fortus, and Rolling Stones Bass player Darryl Jones. They had the crowd rocking with the fantastic single "Lock N Load" before launching into Helter Skelter by The Beatles which blew everyone away!
Western Sand opened the show. A talented group of musicians but they need to tighten up in places! All in all, a stunning night out! I got Scott Gorhams plectrum and a setlist too! Happy Days!
