DVC contracts are good for a long period of time. Are you going to wish to visit Disney World every year, 25 years from today? 35 years from today? The fees could be a burden when your lifestyle changes or you no longer enjoy Disney vacations, and/or you encounter financial problems. Then you're faced with selling your membership, or renting your points to pay the costs of membership. In reality, there's an reason there's always DVC Resales on the market: people do get in over their heads, or decide to change their minds.

A DVC member who joined as a member about 12 years ago told Dvcsales.com the founder she could not have the same choice today. She now realizes that your life and style can alter over time. She was a mom to two small children, and she visited Disney World every single year when she joined DVC. Her children are now at college and is unhappy that she paid $3000 annually in DVC dues. Navigate to this website to discover a knockout post about dvc.

Timeshares are sold because people are unable to pay the costs. This is why you'll find numerous (non-DVC) timeshare memberships offered for sale (or almost) through eBay and other sites, with the stipulation that the new owner pays the fee. But, we've never seen an DVC membership given away since there's an active DVC resale market. DVC has held its value better than most timeshares, mainly because Disney will buy back resales under its right of first refusal clause, which helps to keep the prices of resales rising. At present, resellers receive 50% to 70% of the retail price, once they have paid the selling costs. Additionally, there is a strong demand for DVC points rentals. Owners are often able to rent their points to make enough money to cover their expenses.

Memberships
DVC memberships are moving closer to expiration dates, so it's possible that resales values will fall. If you're thinking about purchasing a resale for one of the resorts that expires in 2042, that the value of the resale could drop substantially in the near future, especially since there are other DVC resorts that don't expire until 2057 or later. Given the success of DVC it is a good reason to think that additional resorts will be built, with later or later expiration dates.

However there is an important advantage to having your Disney Vacation Club membership having a date of expiration: eventually you can leave it! Most other timeshares are sold in perpetuity, which is not at all, to our view, a benefit as it means that the fees for membership will never, ever end, so you are stuck in the same place for years unless you sell the membership or be ready to end your payments and let it be repossessed (and possibly take a hit to your credit score).
