Complete the NCOER throughout the course of
It is not much more difficult for an NCOER than waiting until the very last minute. The worst thing is when you need to contact your soldier to get help. Nothing says "I am thinking of you," like having to ask what they've been doing. It's easy to make life easier even if you note down a few things throughout the year.
Always have a backup
Although the NCOER system is supposed to keep your information throughout the year however, it's an Army system. We've seen too many instances of data being removed from the system. It's great to keep it in there throughout the year, but make sure to keep an extra notepad just in case.
Schedule the counseling at the beginning of the cycle
It's always interesting to know how far behind you are when it comes to counseling your soldiers. As the year begins for your soldier, write the counseling dates in your calendar. And if you want inform your soldier about them as well. The dates can change due to circumstances of circumstances, but it's a good exercise. Additionally, we suggest being a good guy or girl and reminding your troops a week or two before the counseling.
