Third Crossing the Border Festival : Trio Bulgarka/Bisserov Sisters, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (GB) - Mar 24, 1989

The singers were the Trio Bulgarka (Yanka Rupkina, Stoyanka Boneva, Eva Georgieva), Nadka Karadjova, the Bisserov Sisters (Lubimka & Mitra), Mladen Koinarov and Vladimir & Mitko Mitev. The musicians were Kristyu Dimov and Sergei Stoinov; they played the gaida, kaval, tamboura, tarambouka, teppan, djoyanka, svirka and gadulka. The concert provided a selection of Bulgarian folksong, of different regional and local styles, some songs performed traditionally, others arranged. A lot of these singers are famous in Bulgaria (Karadjova in particular) and in recent years have become well-known elsewhere. The evening was entitled The Forest Is Crying.
