An impressive concert by Mor Karbasi, an Israeli singer who performs music from the Sephardic, al-Andalus and Moroccan (Berber and Arab) traditions, singing in Ladino, Hebrew, Castilian, maybe Arabic. Some of the songs were self-composed. She has a strong feeling for these traditions and that is her family's history. Excellent accompaniment by Joe Taylor guitar (plus voice, percussion) and Yshai Afterman percussion. Karbasi also played percussion on one piece and piano on another. She performed prepared choreography on some pieces, reminding us of the flamenco connection. One caveat: some idiot decided to make lighting a major element of some pieces and it did nothing but disturb. Why do people do such stupid things?
