The Emerson String Quartet collaborated with the Complicite theatre company to provide a theatrical/musical event about the composer Dmitri Shostakovich, his character and the Soviet political context of his work, based on his Quartet No15 in E Flat Minor, Op 144. The musicians are Eugene Drucker violin, Philip Setzer violin, Lawrence Dutton viola and David Finckel cello. The Complicite actors are Antonio Gil Martinez, Richard Katz, Tim McMullan and Toby Sedgwick. Highly unusual and thought-provoking, as nearly always with the work of Simon McBurney who conceived and directed the event.
