Early baroque music. The musicians were: Yu-Wei Hu baroque flute, Boris Bizjak baroque flute, Johan Löfving baroque guitar/theorbo and Masumi Yamamoto harpsichord. The programme consisted of pieces by Marais (Pieces en Trio: Suite in G Minor), Couperin (La Francois from Les Nations), Kapsberger (Canario) and Leclair (Deuxième Récréation de Musique). Nice playing from all the musicians, good collaboration, though the style of music, for me, is subdued, before the great flowering of the later baroque, let alone the individualistic expressivity of subsequent classical music. The theorbo is a magnificent-looking instrument, huge, with unfretted bass strings (I think) and fretted ones further up the scale and with two sets of pegs (I think); its size belied its almost dainty sound.
