The show was opened by an energetic set by post punk outfit Bad Nerves who were a bit Stiff Little Fingers mixed with The Offspring.
While waiting for The Darkness, Ed Sheeran walks on stage totally unannounced and casually says, “Hi, my name’s Ed and I’m going to sing a few songs for you!” I don’t know much about him and don’t really know his songs, but in fairness, he was very good and certainly got the crowd going!
Their set featured mostly on the 20th Anniversary of Permission to Land (excellent) and was embellished with a quick verse of Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song as well as their wicked take of Radioheads ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’, which featured on Hot Cakes, The Darkness’s third album.
Ed Sheeran gratefully joined the band on stage, to share vocals on ‘Love is only a feeling’ and they also threw in a small taste of Zeppelin’s ‘Heartbreaker’ too!
I’m running out of superlatives for The Darkness, suffice to say, they’re one of my favourite bands and certainly one of the most fun to see!
They were on fire tonight and for the third time, I got one of their plectrums, this time a tour specific one with ‘PTL again’ on the back! Result!
